…talking about the concept that The Doctor becomes progressively darker with each regeneration. This was, if I recall correctly, part of the thinking behind the Sixth Doctor’s character. Obviously, this wasn’t a popular move, and the Seventh Doctor has generally been seen as a reaction against this…but Seven is actually very dark at times, crossing Seven is a VERY bad thing to do (indeed, Human Nature was originally a Seventh Doctor novel…). When you think about it…while I’m not familiar enough yet with Eight beyond the TV movie…Nine is darker than Seven again…Ten certainly ends up MUCH darker than Nine…and Eleven? Well, Eleven is showing the potential for a lot of darkness…

People are fooled by the Doctor’s silliness, but it’s not for nothing that he’s been compared to Loki. He’s a trickster god, silly, funny, absurd at times…but with an enormous capacity for darkness.

  1. mrgjohnson said: My thoughts exactly towards last week’s whole ‘the Doctor doesn’t kill people’. I mean firstly, that’s not true, but also, it would be pretty in character for him to start, not on a regular basis, but when someone really, truly crossed him. Or worse.
