I'm a writer and artist, working mainly in comic books, and living in the South East of England (although I'm technically half Scottish and half English).
I'm the managing editor of Orang Utan Comics, group editor of AAM/Markosia, writer of Alpha Gods, Hypergirl and Hero: 9-5, and also do freelance inking and lettering work for the likes of AAM/Markosia, Slave Labour, Top Shelf, Image, Marvel/Panini and I letter the official Doctor Who graphic novels for BBC Books.
Orang Utan Comics - Alpha Gods - Hero: 9 to 5
…with twelve of the fifty copies of The Intergalactic Adventures of Zakk Ridley #1 already spoken for through pre-orders and comps I would suggest that those intending to buy their copy at Thought Bubble this weekend without having pre-ordered make a bee line for the Orang Utan Comics table (table 56 in New Dock Hall) first thing on Saturday morning, because I have a feeling that we might run out pretty quickly!
Hey, comic book artists! I’m going to impart to you today an amazing piece of wisdom that you’ve probably never heard before. Except you have. You’ve heard it a million times before. You’ve heard it at every convention you’ve ever been to. You’ve seen it said on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and, heck, it’s so ubiquitous that it’s probably even been said on Google+! Don’t ever, ever, ever, under any circumstances, work for free.
There. Deep. Profound. Knowledge. Wisdom passed down to you from so many, many artists, who, you know, almost all learned it the hard way – by getting where they are today by working for free.
