By Stjepan Seji, who worked on Witchblade. I figured that this picture and what he has to say is pretty relevant to this blog! You can read more of his interesting commentary on the DC reboot and female characters here.
“i am a great believer that sexuality in comics serves a purpose, and works best when earned through character development.
it is supposed to be subservient to the story, it needs to be given a better purpose than just… hey, look sex!”
This is good commentary! It’s what people keep saying about superhero comic art: it’s not that sex is inherently bad, it’s when sex becomes the main focus of character design, costume design, panel construction (the angles you choose, the focus, etc) and just the default way female characters seem to be portrayed that is an issue.
Yeah…

“She makes these like needlework embroideries on set in the tedium of filming”, says MacFadyen, “but they are all: ‘You Are a Cunt’. And she gives them as presents. And it’s Dame Judi Dench. And she is doing this beautifully, intricate, ornate (work). You kind of see the work materializing as the shoot goes on. Like: ‘You Are a Fucking Shit.’ Knightley never received her embroidered cushion from Dench but remarks: “I love that! She gives this fantastic air. She just sits there and she embroiders and you think: ‘Oh, that’s so nice! It’s Judi Dench. It’s so quaint; she’s embroidering a cushion,’ and you go: ‘What are you embroidering?’ And (it says): ‘Fuck!’ Apparently she’s got hundreds of them just covered in swear words or rude sayings.”
so can i worship judi dench as a religion yet or something
i want to hang out with judi dench REALLY BAD.
I remember reading somewhere that she played D & D with Vin Diesel on the Chronicles of Riddick Set.
___
She did. It’s on the DVD. Because he WOOED her to get her in Chronicles. With flowers and showing up all ‘eager young man and you are so wonderful’ while she was doing a play. Old School Wooing. And then y’know, after he treated her like that? It was fun to game w/ him and amuse him w/ her swearwords.
See that’s what happens when game recognizes game. They both ain’t shit & I love it.
That woman is so delightfully dignified.. YET SO FUCKING BADASS <3

“The trouble with time travel is that, after a while, you’re almost always in two places at once. Or three. Or four. Or, on that one notable occasion, seventeen, with a pickle stapled to your tie and three different haircuts to keep track of.”

Nate Silver probability map vs. Actual map
NATE SILVER IS A WITCH
I wish he could have tutored me in statistics last year
THAT MAN IS A WIZARD
Nate Silver used maths, it was super effective!
I never argue the fact that global average temperatures are rising, I simply have yet to see a study that can point this out as an honest aberration in the normal global climate cycle. A few hundred years of data about a cycle that stretches across tens of thousands of years is statistically insignificant.
Anybody have a rebuttal?
Here’s a rebuttal:
That peak at the end doesn’t look like a part of a cycle to me. But, hey, I’m not a climate scientist, I tend to trust the opinions of those who are. Why? Because I haven’t heard any explanation as to why they would lie that doesn’t sound like the ravings of a lunatic.
And five minutes more research led me to this, a record of temperatures for the last 20,000 years shown next to global CO2 levels:

And to quote the accompanying explanation:
“Further back in time, temperatures and atmospheric carbon dioxide levels can be measured using ice cores. The figure on the right shows the records from the Vostok and Law Dome ice cores, although similar records are available from other ice cores obtained from Antarctica and Greenland.
Twenty thousand years ago, the earth was in the grip of an ice age. Around fifteen thousand years ago, the temperature started to warm (probably as a result of variations in the earth’s orbit, see below), triggering natural CO2 release and a feedback greenhouse effect. The temperature increase, around 8 deg C, reflects temperatures around the South Pole. The temperature change in tropical regions was smaller.
For the past ten thousand years, however, the earth’s temperature and atmospheric CO2 has been relatively stable – although temperatures have varied over a range of 4ºC (although some of this variation is probably an artifact due to inevitable measurement errors). The causes of these fluctuations are not known with certainty, but are likely to be due to combinations of variation in solar activity and periodic changes in ocean currents.
The near-vertical red line at the far left marks the rise in atmospheric CO2 since the start of the industrial revolution.”
