Hi Tom-I saw your post about wanting a "road test" when you work with a new creator. With all your experience, what do you think surprises a new creator the most when they start working for Marvel? Thanks!

brevoortformspring answered:

You’d kind of need to ask them about this. I’d imagine that each experience is a little bit different. Hopefully, the fact that we pay people promptly.

You know, there are a whole ton of reasons why I want to write for Marvel. I grew up reading the characters, they’ve fired my imagination and inspired me for decades. There are stories I have inside me about these characters that I want to be able to tell one day. I’ve always seen writing for Marvel as the absolute pinnacle of professional comics writing. It was a childhood dream that transformed into an adult ambition. And I just, quite honestly, have a deep seated passion for this fictional world and this universe of characters.

But, after nine years of working as a freelance comic creator I have to confess that this, right here, is just as important a reason for wanting to write for Marvel as any of those other reasons. Prompt payment is rarer than gold dust in this industry.

Maybe I should send some complimentary copies of my published books to Mr Brevoort…
